PAS-X User Group Meeting USA 2010

The evening before the meeting, Werum America (WAI) marked its 10th anniversary by inviting all the participants of the User Group Meeting to a celebratory dinner in the same hotel.

The 10th anniversary provided a strong focus for the meeting. Hartmut Krome, President of WAI, and Ruediger Schlierenkaemper, Executive VP WAI, opened by paying tribute to Richard Lemire, Project Manager for Global Technical Operations at Novartis. Lemire worked in partnership with Werum to push forward the first PAS-X project on American soil, and has been an important partner for Werum America in the last ten years.

Keynote speaker Denis Zerr, Executive Director of Operational Informations Systems at Amgen, gave a historical account of the importance and development of MES systems, and looked at future prospects. Don Rolph, Director of PMP Information Systems at Amgen and PFU Chairman in the US in 2009/10, then added his assessment of the role of MES in production. Success stories from our clients B. Braun (Kristen Turner) and Bayer HealthCare (Brian Schultz) were at the heart of the User Group Meeting. An update from the PFU by US Chairman Don Rolph and EU Chairman Timo Slawinski, Project Manager at Bayer Technology, completed the contributions from clients and underlined the successful dialog between Werum and its customers. Rolf Blumenthal, Senior Director International Consulting, gave his annual outlook of Werum's plans for product development, followed by a short, live PAS-X demonstration. Two of Werum's partnerships were also brought under the spotlight: first, Roland Laengle, Product Manager at Uhlmann-Pac Systems, spoke about the collaboration between Werum and Uhlmann in the area of Track&Trace. Uhlmann offers a Track&Trace solution for packaging lines. In this context, Werum is in charge of communication with the global repository and managing the serial numbers. Ken Rapp, President and CEO of Velquest, and Christian Fortunel, Senior VP Consulting at WAI, then gave a presentation on the newly-formed technology partnership. Both companies are working on a two-way integration of PAS-X and SmartLab, Velquest's Lab Execution System, in order to synchronize the data flow between labor and production. Martin Browning, formerly of EduQuest, brought the event to a close with an assessment of the challenges facing the FDA.

In the breaks, a demonstration area provided information for participants on a variety of applications from Werum and its partners, in particular, on Research and Development, Lab Execution, Commercial Production, Commercial Packaging and Track&Trace.
