Since the first installation of DAVIS onboard the research vessel METEOR in 1997 we have established ourselves as leading supplier of data management systems for German research vessels. Werum's continuously improved DAVIS-SHIP meanwhile operates successfully on the larger German research vessels SONNE and POLARSTERN, too. At present, we are implementing the field-tested system onboard the medium-sized research vessel MARIA S. MERIAN. The new ship, which is still under construction, will be capable of navigating the margins of the ice cap.
In addition to this core business area there are various other maritime applications, where Werum's technical domain expertise led to state-of-the-art solutions: Communication solutions for vessels; MARNET, the Marine Environmental Monitoring Network of the North Sea and Baltic Sea; and - last but not least - a "lean" version of our data management system for MARUM's remotely operated vehicle QUEST.
With the expedition planning procedure PERPLEX® we provide shipping and logistics
companies, expedition leaders and scientists working in the field of marine research
journeys with a software program for planning maritime research cruises. Also users
in offshore industries and fishery greatly benefit from this software, developed by
the Alfred-Wegener-Institute on the basis of long-standing practical experience in
planning and executing research journeys.
